Common issues #
Rates won't load
The app downloads gold, silver and currency rates from our server when it starts, so it needs an internet connection.
- With no connection, the calculator shows a “No Internet Connection” screen. Reconnect and tap Retry.
- If the rates still can't be loaded, the calculator stops before the first question, so you never answer everything only to have the result fail.
- Reference answers that quote live rates show “Live rates are currently unavailable” until the rates load.
Prayer times and the Hijri date are worked out on your phone and don't depend on the rates.
Prayer times are off for where I am
The app doesn't use GPS. It estimates your city from your internet connection, then calculates prayer times for that city on your phone, using the Karachi method with the Hanafi Asr.
- Check the city shown at the top of the home screen. That is the place the times are for.
- A VPN or proxy, or a mobile network that routes through another city, can make the estimate wrong. Turn the VPN off and reopen the app.
- If the lookup fails, the app uses the last city it found.
There is currently no way to set your location by hand.
The Hijri date is a day out
The app follows the Umm al-Qura calendar. Local moon sighting can put your community a day or two either side of it.
Go to Settings → Hijri Date Adjustment and move the date up to two days earlier or later. The setting is saved on your phone.
Changing the language
Go to Settings → Language and choose English or Urdu. Your choice is saved on your phone.
On first launch the app uses Urdu if your phone is set to Urdu, and English otherwise.
Report a problem #
Get in touch using the details under Contact below, or through Contact Us in the app's Settings. It helps to include:
- What you were doing, and what happened instead of what you expected.
- The app version, shown under Settings → About Zakat App.
- Your phone model, and its Android or iOS version.
- A screenshot, if you can take one.
The app doesn't send crash reports or usage data, so we only hear about a problem when you tell us. Leave your Zakat figures out unless they are needed to show the problem.
Contact #
In the app, Settings → Contact Us opens a short form that drafts the email in your own email app, ready to send.
