Zakat timing explained:
Due after one lunar year (Hawl)
- Count from when your wealth first reached Nisab
- In the Hanafi view, Nisab must be present at the start and end of the lunar year; dips in between don't reset the year (as long as wealth doesn't fall to zero)
Ramadan tradition:
Many pay during Ramadan for extra reward, but it's not required. You can pay anytime after your lunar year completes.
Example:
- Wealth reached Nisab: Jan 1, 2024
- Zakat due by: Jan 1, 2025
Note on this calculator:
The calculator assumes you have already held your wealth for one lunar year (Hawl), so it does not ask about the holding period. Use it on your Zakat anniversary.
Set a reminder for your Zakat anniversary!
And Allah knows best.
